WORCS ATV RACING BATTLES THE ELEMENTS AT MESQUITE MX

Mesquite, Nevada, delivered a weekend of racing that tested everything the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC WORCS competitors had to offer, from speed and endurance to machine reliability. Riders arrived Friday to sunny skies and temperatures in the 90s, but by Sunday, conditions had taken a dramatic turn as a powerful downpour associated with Tropical Storm Rachel rolled through the area. The sudden change transformed the weekend, leaving the motocross section drenched while creating nearly ideal conditions through the sandy portions of the course. Stretching approximately 5.5 miles, the Mesquite MX course offered plenty of ground for competitors to make up time, but the rain added another layer of difficulty. While the sand soaked up the moisture and provided excellent traction, the saturated motocross sections and demanding conditions took their toll on the machines. Multiple riders across the classes had to retire, making reliability as important as outright speed.

In the Pro ATV class, Beau Baron delivered another strong performance, taking the race victory after capitalizing on a few mistakes from championship leader Travis Damon in the Pro section of the course. Damon’s errors opened the door for Baron to move ahead, and Baron made the most of the opportunity, putting together a consistent ride over the demanding 5.5-mile course. Baron recorded his fastest lap of 10:27.075 on Lap 5, maintaining his pace through the challenging conditions to secure the win. Damon fought his way to a second-place finish, recording a 10:33.525 on Lap 5, but the mistakes in the Pro section proved costly as Baron took control of the race. Logan Huff secured third, followed by Auston Baxter and Cole Fryar, rounding out the top five.

The result sets up a compelling championship showdown heading into the final round. Damon continues to lead the Pro ATV standings with 203 points, but Baron has closed the gap to just seven points with 196. With Logan Huff sitting third at 168 points, the championship fight between Damon and Baron will take center stage at the finale. After a season of battling through nine rounds, the two are separated by little more than a single strong finish, leaving everything on the table for the final race.

The Pro-Am ATV class brought its own drama, with Eduardo Rojas winning after a strong run on the challenging Mesquite course. Rojas set the pace early, recording his fastest lap of 11:28.261 on Lap 2. He continued to put together a competitive run as conditions and course demands tested the field, ultimately securing the top spot ahead of Bobby Troy. Troy finished second, while Torey Matajcich claimed third. Daven Desilva crossed the line in fourth, with James Saunders listed as a DNF. Rojas’ victory was especially important in the championship standings, keeping the title fight alive heading into the final round. Desilva remains at the top of the Pro-Am ATV standings with 189 points, but Rojas now sits just 14 points behind with 175. Matajcich holds third with 167 points, keeping himself within striking distance should the leaders encounter trouble at the finale.

Desilva’s fourth-place finish means he still controls his championship destiny, but Rojas has given himself a valuable opportunity to apply pressure. With the demanding conditions at Mesquite serving as a reminder of how quickly a race can change, the final round promises to deliver another intense battle. A clean race and a strong finish will be critical for all three contenders as they look to close out their seasons on top.

In the Women’s Pro ATV class, Layne Fryar took the race victory with a strong performance, recording the fastest lap of the race at 10:04.036 on Lap 2. Torey Matajcich finished second, followed by Bailey Baron in third. Fryar’s win provided an important boost heading into the final round, but Matajcich remains in control of the championship standings. Matajcich leads the Women’s Pro ATV championship with 205 points, ahead of Baron with 189 and Fryar with 179. With 26 points separating the top two, Matajcich has built a valuable advantage, but the final round will determine whether she can convert that lead into a championship. With Mesquite MX now behind them, the WORCS ATV competitors turn their attention to the season finale at the La Paz County Fairgrounds in Parker, Arizona. The Pro ATV championship remains a seven-point battle between Damon and Baron, while Desilva and Rojas head into the final Pro-Am round separated by just 14 points. The Women’s Pro championship also remains up for grabs, with Matajcich looking to defend her lead.

After a season filled with close racing, demanding courses, and unpredictable conditions, the final round will be the last opportunity for competitors to make their mark. With championships still to be decided and the season coming down to one final race, Parker is set to deliver an exciting conclusion to the WORCS ATV season.
