October 7, 2017- Adelanto, CA- The 2017 WORCS season is in the books, and I brought home the national championship! We headed up to Adelanto on Friday morning so I could practice in the afternoon. I’ve never raced at the Adelanto Stadium so I was super pumped to get there and check it out! The track was rough, but after practicing I felt confident going into Saturday’s race.
We arrived at the stadium on Saturday morning and I headed to the driver’s meeting. After the meeting, it was time to get ready and head to the line. I wanted to get to the start line early so that I could get a good spot. I was one of the first to line up. I parked my car and got out as there was about an hour before my race was set to start. After the time had passed, I got in my car, strapped in, and waited for the green flag to fly. As we took off, I was running right with the first place finisher. We headed into the first turn and I hit the gas taking off in the lead! I lead for the first lap and a half, but then was passed by second place. I stayed on it and worked really hard to get my lead back. During the last lap of the race, I felt something break. I didn’t know it then, but the steering box had ripped off of my car. I knew I had to get across the finish line as the points were very close for the series championship. I slowed down and was able to finish the race in 2nd place. That was enough to bring home the overall championship for the 2017 season!
In a few weeks we are headed to Camp RZR in Glamis, CA. We are also prepping my RZR 800 for the Lake Elsinore Grand Prix in November and the final round of the Quad X & UTV Series in December.
