DEMARTILE AND GLATHAR LOCK IN 2024 CHAMPIONSHIPS!

As the 2024 season nears the finish line, the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC WORCS series heads to Mesquite, Nevada, for its eighth round of action. A 6-mile course that starts you on the Moto course before you make a hill climb out to the off-road filled with deep sand ruts for as far as the eye can see. One of the season’s most challenging and physically demanding tracks, paired with an October heatwave, showed just how well these riders are trained as they set out for their 2-hour Moto—in the pro section, tires, logs, and other obstacles loomed as there were quite a few riders that struggled throughout the entirety of the Moto. In 450 Pro, Dare Demartile continues his hot streak, winning his third in a row. Mason Semmens returns to action after an injury kept him out of the race at Vernal but showcases his speed still as he wins Pro 250. Jackson Glathar battled with a handful of riders but was able to pull ahead and win Pro-Am.

On Sunday morning, as the green flag dropped, Tyler Lynn and brand new team rider Ryan Surratt put their SLR Hondas out in front. Close behind them was the points leader, Dare Demartile, putting his Beta USA machine to work as he ensured they didn’t pull away early. Lynn clocked the fasted lap during the second lap with a time of 8:52 as he extended his early lead to just over ten seconds ahead of Demartile. On the next lap, Lynn made a small mistake and ended up tipping over in front, and Demartile also had a small tip-over as the top 3 switches, with Demartile in 1st and Surratt in 2nd. The battle between the top two riders for the next half an hour was captivating as they came across the scoring line, almost touching bars just seconds apart.

At the midway point, Surratt put down a lap time of 9:30 while Demartile only sped up, putting close to 30 seconds between him and the competitors. Once he had some breathing room from the pressure the SLR Honda team put on, Demartile cruised to another dominating victory just under a minute ahead of the second. Lynn and Surratt rounded out the podium as Jack Simpson and Preston Kilroy rounded out your top 5. With this win, He clinched the championship in 450 Pro, giving Beta USA their first WORCS Championship with hopes of many more.

After suffering an injury over the summer while back at home training for the Hattah Desert Race in Australia, dislocating and fracturing his ankle, it was his first race back at WORCS to try to recapture the lead in points. Early on, it was all Jake Alvarez on his RPM FMF KTM-backed machine as he grabbed the holeshot and came out of the pro section with the Aussie duo of Semmens and Sam Pretscherer behind him. Alvarez held off the charging Semmens for the first two laps of the race till a minor mishap in the Pro section allowed him to pass for the lead. Once in the lead, he hit his lines and made easy work of the pro section, putting almost identical lap times down for the remainder of the 120-minute Pro race. Meanwhile, the battles only heated up behind him as the race continued.

The current points leader, Colton Aeck, started towards the back, sitting in 5th place after lap 1. Still, he wasn’t there for long as he put his fastest lap and the quickest of his class down in lap 2 with a time of 9:16. Moving up lap after lap, passing his fellow competitors till he and Alvarez started to tangle with each other just before the halfway mark of the race. Their battle lasted a few laps before Aeck got around him for good and began to set his eyes on Semmens. After the checkered flag, Semmens came out on top and pulled the championship even closer, separated by only 5 points coming into the final round at Lake Havasu in two weeks. Alvarez landed on the podium again, with Kai Aiello and Sam Pretscherer finishing in the top 5.

In Pro-Am, the name of the game was the pro section, and whoever was able to get through cleanly put themselves in an excellent position to be a contender early on. Jackson Glathar rocketed out to a holeshot but, on the second lap, had trouble making it over the final set of tires and watched as Kayden Lynn blasted over them, grabbing the early lead. Lynn and Racer Fry battled for the first five laps till he had to pull off the track with a DNF.

Another rider with the speed to be on top of the box, Noah Gordon, pushed himself, but after a failed attempt at the tires, he also had to pull off early. Glathar found the best way after that second lap and set his sights on Kayden catching up to him around the race’s halfway point.  He made the pass stick during the seventh lap as he led the rest of the way, grabbing another win and locking in the championship for the season. In 125 Pro, the Alvarez brother duo put on a show in the beginning as they were just seconds apart for the first half of the race till Travis Damon made a pass to get around Jake for second place. Justin Seeds also entered the class, finishing in 4th place behind Jake.

Rocky Mountain ATV/MC WORCS wants to thank all of the volunteers, racers, and track crew for another awesome weekend of racing in Mesquite. We hope to see everyone at the final round on October 18th-20th in Lake Havasu City.
