BATTLES AT BUCKSKIN HILLS AS BARON AND LEAVER WIN

After a long summer break, Rocky Mountain ATV/MC WORCS racing set their eyes on Buckskin Hills Recreation Complex to battle it out for round 7 of the 2024 series. A 5.5-mile course spread out from a motocross track to an Offroad section filled with pockets of silt kept the racers on their toes as they put in laps as championships come into play. Still recovering from a broken collarbone sustained during the summer break, Beau Baron led from wire to wire in ATV Pro. In Pro-Am, Gage Leaver and points leader Justin Semas had a battle going on early, but Leaver was able to grab his third win of the season. Torey Matajcich wins in Women’s Pro on Saturday to make her perfect season one step closer.

One of the biggest challenges during this race and track is the game plan you set to battle the dust and, more importantly, get the holeshot to allow you to have some fresh air early. Baron was the prime example of this as he could start front and never gave it up, extending his lead at one point up to 45 seconds. The most impressive part of this race is that he rode with a still broken collarbone after a check-up later in the week.

Travis Damon started the race in second with Braxton Grosse hot on his trail. Lap after lap, Grosse made his way closer to Damon till the 4th lap, where he could pass after Damon made a pit stop to check air filters after the silt impacted it during the race. Grosse fought hard to catch Baron but could not close that gap after the 90-minute ride. Logan Huffe, who finished in 4th place, only got faster as the race continued. He attempted to wrangle in Damon and cut his lead to 8 seconds, but he finished just behind him. And rounding out the top 5 in the Pro class was Austen Turner in his first Pro race this season.

In Pro-Am, the Points leader got out to a quick lead, putting down the fastest lap time during the second lap at 9:35. He separated from the group early, putting close to 30 seconds between himself and Gage Leaver. As the race progressed, Leaver pushed his way into first, and Semas had a mechanical issue, ending his day early after eight laps. Behind them, Daven Desilva, who fought hard through the dust from the back, coming from 6th place after the start, slowly made passes to move into 3rd. On the final lap, Desilva made one more crucial pass to put him in second place for this round and now second in points. John Warick puts his quad on the box for the first time in Pro-Am as he finishes in third, three spots better than any race leading up to this round. Rounding out the top 5 are Parley Steadman and Landen Johnson. Semas heads into Mesquite with a 30-point lead, but it’s still anyone game leading into the final rounds.

Torey Matajcich and Layne Fryar continue their 1-2 punch as they finish in the top 2 spots again. Bailey Baron makes her first professional podium in third place as she beats out Julyssa Pesqueira and Dakota Hibler for the final spot this week.

Rocky Mountain ATV/MC WORCS Series wants to thank all the riders, volunteers, and track staff who helped put together another great weekend of racing. We will see you all in Mesquite for the next round on October 4th-6th
