WORCS Round 3 Pro ATV Race Report

Lake Havasu, AZ – Round 3 of the 2012 WORCS Racing Series was held in Lake Havasu, Arizona at the Crazy Horse Campground during the peak of Spring Break, but the weather was more reminiscent of winter than spring with abnormally cold temperatures for Sunday’s Pro ATV Race with temps only rising up into the 50’s by the start of the 105 minute long race.

For the second race in the row, it was Can-Am / Motoworks / DWT’s #2 Josh Frederick charging his way to victory after a hard fault battle early on the in the race with Robbie Mitchell and David Haagmsa, but in the end, Frederick claimed the win with plenty of time to spare to take sole control of the pro points lead with 72 points.

Maxxis / H&M Motorsports #422 David Haagsma continues to turn heads in the pro class this year as he secured his second podium appearance of the year with a career best 2nd place finish, which boosted Haagsma into the third spot in the points chase with 60 points.

The biggest surprise of the weekend, was Can-Am / Motoworks / DWT’s #49 Dillon Zimmerman charging his way from a mid-pack start to the final podium spot, which was a career first for this young gun.

Maxxis / H&M Motorsports #549 Beau Baron held the early lead for several laps before he hit a kicker bump, which launched him off his quad. Baron remounted at the back of the pack, but he wasn’t deterred as he charged his way back to an impressive 4th place finish. Baron is now 7 points behind Frederick in the pro points chase.

LMR / EXIT / DWT’s #8 Robbie Mitchell scored a season best top 5 finish and even held the lead for a lap early in the race, and he continues to improve with each passing round on the Honda.

Maxxis’ #10 Mike Cafro grabbed the ATVRiders.com Holeshot Award, but he was feeling under the weather this weekend with the flu, so he dropped back to a seventh place finish by the checkered flag.

WORCS Racing will make its return to Arizona for Round 4 of the 2012 season on April 14-15 at SpeedWorld MX.
