BARON AND MACCACHREN BRING HOME WINS IN MESQUITE!
North of Las Vegas is the small town of Mesquite, which is where the next installment of Rocky Mountain ATV/MC WORCS racing will be. This is the final stop before the SXS World Finals in Primm, which is the conclusion of the 2022 racing season. Beau Baron, who clinched his 10th Pro ATV championship the same day, would bring home the win in his brand-new Polaris Pro R. Meanwhile, in Pro Stock, Cayden MacCachren would continue his hard charge back in the points as he gets home the second straight win in Pro Stock bringing him under 20 points away from the Brayden Baker in the championship points.
This track was quite the challenge for the SXS class as it is widely thought to be the most physically demanding course of the season. The off-road section was incredibly deep in sand, and the motocross section was fast, with big jumps and high-speed corners. Smooth and steady was the name of the game in this race, as mechanical issues would take out some of the top racers like Beau Judge, Shawn Saxton, and Jeremiah Wagner.
From the second line, Baron would lineup in his fresh Pro R as he would start back in 8th place after the first lap. He would slowly creep his way up the leaderboard, settling in third behind Tyson Leaver and MacCachren till the final lap, finishing just a few seconds in first place by adjusted time. MacCachren, who had already raced the day prior and would take home the win in Pro Stock, was fast out of the gate and quickly cemented himself in the lead, but some engine issues would cause him to slow down a bit as the race progressed, allowing Baron to reel him throughout the race. Third place belonged to Tyson Leaver, who would find the podium for the first time since last year at this same course finishing less than ten seconds behind his competition in second place.
MacCachren dominated pro stock as he would grab the holeshot and never let it go taking his #1 Polaris RS1 to the finish line to a win by just over 30 seconds. He mentioned in his interview how much he loves this track, which showed with his victory, saying he has never lost at this track in non-turbo machines. Just like 1st place, Clayton Winiecki would find himself in second place in the first lap and wouldn’t change as he would exchange almost identical laps till the final two, where MacCachren would gain a bit of ground on him.
This would be his first podium since round 4 in Taft, but he still finds himself in the top 5 points for the championship. Brayden Baker would be battling with Winiecki till the final lap when a machine would make him pull off the track and allow Trey Eggleston to make the pass and stick on the podium with his 4th straight podium in the WORCS series. As Eggleston comes from a short course background this track is exceptionally difficult course since the track was so rough and deep with ruts in the back, it did not lean toward his expertise, but he got it done!
From Everyone at Rocky Mountain WORCS Racing, we want to thank all the workers, racers, and volunteers for your hard work this week and coming out. We can’t wait to see everyone at the final round in Primm SXS will be racing on October 28th-30th.
