BARON & JOHNSON WIN THE BATTLE TO THE FINISH IN HAVASU

By: Connor Moore
This weekend the third round of Rocky Mountain ATV/MC was held in Lake Havasu at the Crazy Horse Campgrounds, and it did not disappoint. We had fantastic racing all weekend long and some of the best class battles in both the Pro Production and Pro Stock classes that we have been able to witness in quite some time. This course was no joke, with deep sand running throughout most of the system and the infamous Havasu Lagoon jump heading in the opposite direction than usual.

Pro Production staged on Saturday slated for a 3:20 start time with two lines of drivers preparing to battle against each other for fifty-five minutes. The front line was full of heavy hitters such as Beau Judge, Cayden MacCachren, Tyson leaver, and more. Now don’t forget about the second row with other premier drivers like Jeremiah Wagner, Beau Baron, and Larry Heidler rounding out the class.
Beau Judge would take an early lead after grabbing the holeshot from MacCachren and beginning to pull away from his competitors. After a few laps, Judge would start to lose power in his car. “I looked down and saw my temperature gauged pegged around 245, and the car began to put itself into limp mode.” Said Judge. After pulling over and noticing all the fans were not on, which was causing him to overheat, they switched to his override plug-in, which made the fans immediately change back on, allowing him to get back on course and start pushing his way back thru the pack.
On adjusted time in Second place, Jeremiah Wagner would barely beat out Judge by just over a second after a late-race push by Judge. He would have to replace the belt during his race, which made him lose valuable time, but he held off Beau just long enough as the checkered flag was thrown to come out on top.

Beau Baron with quite the weekend, started it off on Saturday when he chose to ride a smooth pace in the Pro Production race. “I know how brutal this racecourse is, and I wanted to stay smooth, so I made sure I didn’t hit any of the potholes and rode the berms high to keep a good pace through the entire race.” Said Baron. That is precisely what he did, and as the attrition began to take drivers out one by one throughout the course, Baron started to make his way up the leaderboard. After the checkered flag was thrown, Baron would be sitting on the podium’s top spot, with the leaders finishing within just over 30 seconds of each other.

If the Course was not deep enough for the Pro race on Saturday, then don’t worry. Pro Stock has got you covered finishing up the weekend, and it was deep throughout the entire course, which made your start position extremely critical since passing was minimal. Blue skies were in full effect on Sunday to make for a gorgeous Lake Havasu day in the mid-’70s.
Brayden Baker was able to grab the holeshot from the fist line with Cayden MacCachren in hot pursuit behind him. It was a fierce battle with MacCachren trying to put passes on Baker anywhere he could find enough to get around him in the deeply rutted course. MacCachren would end up breaking a wheel which caused him to get shuffled back in the middle of the race, but as each lap would go by he would shave time off, setting the fastest lap of the entire race during his charge.

Meanwhile, From the second line of cars was Chris Johnson piloting his Polaris RZR, who was putting consistent laps one after another. Johnson’s Lap times were within less than 6 seconds apart on every lap except for two. And as the time would begin to wind down, and live timing would update every lap, Johnson would slowly move his way into the first position based on corrected time. The crowd at the races were in for a treat on the last lap as all three podium spots were only a few seconds apart as MacCachren would pass Baker to finish 1st physically. Still, Johnson would turn in his fastest lap to take back the 1st overall and win the weekend in Lake Havasu by less than 5 seconds over Baker.
Thank you to all the racers who came out this weekend to support WORCS Racing, and round 4 of the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC will return to Honolulu Hills in Taft, California, on April 1st-3rd.
