The Cotter Boys headed to Primm NV for the WORCS Series World Finals Championship a two race series on two different style tracks. Mason Cotter, coming off back-to-back wins at the UTV World Championships & Best in the Desertβs Cal City Challenge, was the odds on favorite going into the weekend, but it was little brother Wyattβs time to shine. In Fridayβs qualifying, Wyatt laid down the four fastest qualifying laps in his Hoosier Tire/Cotter Boast Rentals/Polaris RZR 170, qualifying 3 seconds faster than the next competitor!
Saturdayβs race was on a very fast stadium style short course track. Wyatt started on the pole, with bother Mason starting in P4 for the flying start of this race. Wyatt jumped to the early lead and never looked back leading every lap of the race and leaving the battle for P2, far behind him, for his older brother to deal with. Mason was running P4 in a 3-car battle for P2 for a few laps before moving into P3 by passing Jacob Williamson. Then in an awesome low grove move in the large fast sweeping left-hander took over P2 from Trevor Lee. Wyatt crossed the finish line in P1, 8 seconds ahead of his brother Mason in P2.
Sundayβs race was held on a tight, technical, muddy motocross style track. Wyatt & Mason hole shotted the entire field at the start, thanks to the hand grooved Hoosier Rib series tires in the rear, and entered into turn one side by side, with Wyatt taking P1 out of the corner. Mason quickly took P1 from his younger brother a few turns later, and started distancing himself from the rest, until an issue with his chain stopped his car dead in the middle of a tight, right handed, rutted interior turn.
Wyatt being the next car into the corner could not see Mason stopped, but thanks to his great Rugged Radios communications from his spotter Monster James, was able to avoid a full collision with Mason and just rubbed tires with Masonβs stopped car as he past. Wyatt was getting lots of pressure from behind the remaining eight laps, but kept his cool passing lots of slower traffic and drove his best race finishing P1, and taking the 2021 WORCS World Finals Championship just as his brother did in 2020. After getting towed to the pits for a quick repair, Mason re-entered the course in P11, two laps down. With a lot of work to do, Mason weaved his way thru the traffic on the tight narrow course and laid down the fastest lap time of the race, but there just was not enough time and came across in P10.
