WORCS Round 7 Pro ATV Race Report

Anza, CA – After a short summer break, WORCS ATV Racing resumed at Cahuilla Creek MX park in Anza, California for Round 7 of the 2012 season, and H&M Motorsports / Maxxis’ #549 Beau Baron secured his fourth win of the year followed by Can-Am / Motoworks’ #49 Dillon Zimmerman and #2 Josh Frederick.
Spark Racing’s #549 Beau Baron got off to a second place start behind #49 Dillon Zimmerman, and recorded the fastest lap-time of the race in lap two with a time of 8:31.592. Baron would continue to charge after Zimmerman until he made the pass on the motocross track in lap five to take over the lead.
Baron would go on to secure the win and extend his points lead to 18 points over #2 Josh Frederick with one round of racing remaining on the schedule, so Baron will only need to finish in 14th place or better at the season finale to secure the Pro ATV class championship, but in racing, anything can happen, and a DNF would open the door for Frederick.
DWT’s #49 Dillon Zimmerman ran a career best WORCS race securing the second spot on the Podium after grabbing the ATVriders.com holeshot award and leading the race till lap five. Zimmerman had plenty to celebrate, since August 5th was also his birthday, which made his performance on the track even more special.
Holz Racing’s #2 Josh Frederick had an uphill battle to secure the final spot on the podium. Frederick got a slow start out of the gate, and he ended up wrecking in the off-road section of the course in lap one, which sent him to the back of the pack. Frederick would rebound to 6thplace by the end of lap one, and he charged his way up to third by lap 7, which is where he stayed to the checkered flag.
Maxxis’ #422 David Haagsma held the third spot for first half of the race before Frederick’s made the pass. Haagsma would settle into the fourth spot, which he held to the checkered flag. Haagsma remains in the top three in points with a 12 point lead over #49 Dillon Zimmerman heading into the final round.
Yamaha’s #417 Josh Row rounded out the top five, and he is currently in a tight points battle with #8 Robbie Mitchell in the points race for the fifth spot with only 2 points separating the pair heading into the final round of racing.
The final round of the 2012 WORCS Racing Season will be held at Honolulu Hills in Taft, California on September 14-16, 2012.
